How to Make Big Decisions in University Life: A Christian Perspective

This is a special lecture by Dr. Sascha Becker, Department of Economics, University of Warwick.

Abstract: Life in academia is full of big decisions. Do a PhD or not? Pursue an academic career at all? Move jobs? Which roles to take on? Who to work with? Making the right decision may seem daunting, but the Bible has insights to guide the decision process. The Bible highlights good mentors (Proverbs 15:22: “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.”) and friends who are willing to challenge us (Proverbs 27:17: “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”) as key ingredients in decision making. Prayer and listening to God’s voice help discern which steps to take next, as highlighted in the book of Acts 16:6-10 which describes how the apostle Paul took next steps in his journey. I will also share some of my own experiences of making big decisions as a follower of Jesus and an academic.

All are welcome!
